Granville Wilson Chronister, age 99, of Alton, MO passed away January 31, 2013 at Shepherd's View Assisted Living Center. Mr. Chronister was born May 8, 1913 in Woodside Township near Alton, the son of George C. and Floy M. (Sifford) Chronister. He was married to Roberta Irene (Kissell) Chronister on October 13, 1934 in St. Louis, MO. They had 3 sons, and were married over 57 years until her passing in February 1992. He was married to Callie Mary Lee (Pingleton) Bell Chronister on January 22, 1994 near Alton, MO, and they were married over 18 years until her passing in July 2012. Survivors include Granville's 3 sons and their wives, George and Colleen Chronister, St. Louis, MO; Thomas and Dorothy Chronister, Tulsa, OK; Donald and Nancy Chronister, San Antonio, TX; plus his step-children and their spouses, Roger and LaDean Bell, LeeRoy O'Neal, and Junior and Sheila Brown, all from Alton. He is also survived by one brother, Leroy Chronister and his wife Irene, and his sister-in-law Marie Kilburn of Alton. In addition he is survived by his 6 grandchildren, Curtis Chronister, Maria Carroll, Kristian Chronister, Jennifer Miller, Daniel Chronister, and Andy Chronister. He is also survived by 7 great-grandchildren, 8 step-grandchildren and 16 step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Jewell Chronister and Duane Chronister, his sister Verna Siegel, and his step-daughter, Kathryn O'Neal. Granville was a proud member of Pipefitters Local 562 of St. Louis before retiring in 1975 and moving back to his Alton hometown. Granville loved his family, enjoyed talking to others and being around other people, and never met a stranger. He will be missed by all of us. There will be a visitation on Sunday, February 3, 6:00-8:00 pm at Clary Funeral Home in Alton. Services will be on Monday, February 4, 2:00 pm at Clary Funeral Home, with burial at Hickory Grove Cemetery.
