Clifford Eugene Woods, known to family and friends as Gene, passed away on Sunday, March 5, at his home after a long battle with cancer. He was born on November 8, 1939, in Alton, Missouri, to Jesse Woods and Herbert Woods. Gene spent most of his life doing what he loved most, buying cattle and farming. He was passionate about his work and loved being on his farm, taking care of his cattle. He was a dedicated and hardworking man, and his contribution to the farming industry will not be forgotten. Gene is survived by his companion, Julie Slater; brother Don Woods and his wife Judy; niece Debby; son Mike Woods; daughters Jeanie Sutton and her husband Jim, Kelly Woods-Miller and her husband John, step-daughter Donna Turner; grandchildren Craig Woods, Tory Sutton, Brett Sutton, Keri Paul, Courtney Waldner, Tracy Schmidt; and great-grandchildren Xavier, Stella, Ellie, Annabelle, Canon, Ben, Henry, and Noah. Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Woods, his mother, Jesse Woods, his father, Herbert Woods, and his granddaughter Tara Hoerr. Gene will be remembered as a kind, hardworking, and dedicated man who loved his family and his farm. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Services will be 11:00 am Thursday, March 9, 2023 at the Clary Funeral Home, Alton, MO, with burial in the Many Springs Cemetery.
