James Luther Nicholson passed away June 26, 2023, in Springfield, MO, at the age of 77 years, 4 months, and 27 days. He was born January 29, 1946, to Luther and Beatrice (Humphrey) Nicholson in Mammoth Spring, AR. He was united in marriage on April 19, 1969, in Mammoth Spring, AR, to Barbara Geib. They were able to celebrate 54 wonderful years of marriage. James is survived by his wife, Barbara of the home; 2 sons, Farrell Nicholson & wife Sara of Mammoth Spring, Blake Nicholson of Mammoth Spring; 4 grandchildren, Blain, Keaton, Anna & Rice Nicholson; 2 siblings, Janice Ballard & husband Frank of Kosh, MO, Lanis Nicholson & wife Brenda Nicholson of Mammoth Spring; 1 uncle, Avery Humphrey of Mammoth Spring; & many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, neighbors, former students; brother-in-law, Noel Geib & wife Joyce. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther & Beatrice Nicholson. James was a devout Christian and member of the Pilot Church of Christ in which he served as an elder for many years. He was a beloved Vo-Ag teacher at the Highland High School for 32 years and best known as “Mr. Nichâ€, where he developed many lifelong friends. James followed several relatives, including his father, into military service when called, and served honorably in the 82nd Airborne in Vietnam, receiving the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal, & National Defense Service Medal. His life was extended for 12 years by the dedicated nurses at Mountain Home Dialysis Center, the caring staff at Spring River Home Health, his faithful loving wife, and his sheer determination to live. James was a wonderful loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend. He was devoted to God and to providing for his family. He prayed always for his family and loved spending time with the grandchildren, Blain, Keaton, Anna, & Rice. He will truly be missed by all who knew him. Funeral services will be 2pm Sunday, July 2, 2023, at the Mammoth Spring Church of Christ, with Bro. Rick Ragsdale & Bro. Jeff Lancaster officiating, with burial following in the Pilot Cemetery in Mammoth Spring, AR. Visitation will be 1pm-2pm Sunday just prior to the service. Arrangements are under the direction of the Clary Funeral Home of Thayer, MO. Pallbearers: Blake Nicholson, Farrell Nicholson, Blain Nicholson, Keaton Nicholson, Anna Nicholson, Rice Nicholson Honorary Pallbearers: Wendell Ragsdale, Sam Hill, Ron Estes, Arliss Powell, Wayne Smith, Noel Geib, Frank Ballard, Butch Woolard, Highland School Staff, Mtn. Home Dialysis Center nurses, Class of 1964.
