Edith Jewelene Shields Hatterman was born December 13, 1942, in Alton, Missouri, to Raymond Mack Shields and Ora Zee Lance Shields and went to be with the Lord on February 13, 2025, at the age of 82 years and two months in West Plains, Missouri. Edith gave her life to the Lord at the age of 14 during a Revival in St. Louis, Missouri. She received salvation one Sunday and on the following Sunday, at the same Revival, received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. Jewelene was a godly example to all those around her. She became a member of the Alton Assembly of God Church on July 24, 1977, where she faithfully served as song leader, was active in the Women’s Ministries, and taught Sunday School for over 55 years in the Beginner and Primary classes, until retiring at the age of 81. Jewelene’s hobbies included reading, sewing quilts for her children and grandchildren, spending time with family, and playing games such as Skip-Bo, Phase10, Rummikub, Sequence, Aggravation, and Rack-O. Jewelene never met a stranger and loved to strike up a conversation with anyone she met. Jewelene entered the workforce in 1965 and worked in multiple factories until 1992, when she earned her CDL at the age of 50, driving for the Ozark Horizon State School and then Alton Schools until she retired in 2010. Daniel and Jewelene Hatterman were united in Marriage on May 26, 1984. For the last 40 years, they worked together raising cattle, farming, and enjoyed making improvements to their home. Jewelene is survived by her husband, Daniel Hatterman, of Alton, MO. Children: Lora Whittenburg of Alton, MO; Mark Johnson (Debe) of Jackson, MO; Lisa Blackburn (Ron) of Sikeston, MO; and Julie Richardson (Paul) of Licking, MO. Siblings: Carl Shields, Bill Shields (Sylvia), Dennis Shields (Roberta), Jerry Simpson (Barbara), Michael Shields, and Diane Stewart. Grandchildren: Micah Blackburn, Holly Peters (Dalton), Ian Blackburn, Shalana Whittenburg, Lincoln Blackburn, Landon Blackburn, and 2 Great-Grandchildren, Aurora Peters, and Brooklyn Peters, along with numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She is preceded in death by her mother, father, stepfather (Richard Simpson), three brothers: Glen Simpson, Tom Simpson, Kenny Shields, and one sister, Debby Shields. Jewelene will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Her prayer was for everyone to live their lives for Christ so she can see them in Heaven. Services will be 11:00am Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Alton Assembly of God, with Rev. Robert Chastain and Rev. Paul Richardson officiating, burial in the Cave Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, 6-8:00pm at the church. |
