March 23, 2025, a faithful servant of the Lord, Ralph Emerson Underwood, Jr., left his earthly home to join his Lord and savior. He left those who mourn his passing: his wife of sixty-nine years, “Blondie” Lucille (Honeycutt) Underwood, two sons, Ralph Jedger (Jed) and wife Sandy, James Emerson (Jim) and wife Shelley, and his daughter, Jill Underwood-Belding and husband Matt, four grandchildren, whom he lovingly called Juggy, Scruff, Meggie, and Maudie, more commonly known as: Jared (Bethany) Underwood, Logan (Leslie) Underwood, Megan (Marc) Pitts, Jade (Darren) Spangler; 9 great-grandchildren, Maddux, Holden, Liam, Lennox, and Leif Underwood; Landry, Cannon, Marley Pitts, Emerson Spangler. Sister-in-laws Linda Honeycutt, Mary Jane Honeycutt, Lana (Rick) Chester. Brother-in-laws David Garrison, Junior Brewer, and many families and friends, too numerous to list. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Helen Underwood, his mother and father-in-law Otto and Grace (Hackworth) Honeycutt, three sister-in-laws, Brenda Garrison, Linda Kay Brewer, and Sue Burkhead, three brother-in-laws, David Honeycutt, Eddie Honeycutt and Bill Burkhead. Ralph was born November 12, 1937, the only child of Ralph Emerson Underwood, Sr. and Helen (Pingleton) Underwood. He spent his lifetime living and working on the farm that has now been home to five generations. Ralph spent his early years working on the family farm and in his parents’ store, Underwood Feed and Grocery, he did the rodeo scene and rode bulls, he possibly stirred up a little mischief, and attended Thayer Schools, graduating with the class of 1955. His free time was spent cruising with his buddies in his shiny yellow and black ’55 Crown Vic. Perhaps it was the Crown Vic driven by that red-headed Thayer boy that caught the eye of Lucille, but it was that blonde hair that caught Ralph’s eye at the ballgame one night. He went home to tell his Momma she was the prettiest girl he had ever seen, and he was going to marry her someday, and that he did New Years Day 1956. Soon after, he went to work for Frisco Railroad. He rode that train for thirty-eight years, where he made many long and lasting friendships. He loved to share those stories and many more with his family, about the good ole’ days. Ralph was a good man, a hardworking man, a man of integrity, good character, a man always willing to help a friend or neighbor. He loved life, his friends, his family, and his cows, but most of all, he loved the Lord. He surrendered his old ways to the Lord in 1978 and was baptized by Brother Richard Robinson. He later served as a deacon of the Thayer Freewill Baptist Church for more than forty years, until his death. He was also a Gideon. Ralph would gladly talk about the Lord, but more importantly he lived a life that modeled his Christian faith. He wanted nothing more than his family to know the Lord, serve Him, and be an example of the love of Jesus. He will be missed. Funeral services will be 2pm Thursday, March 27, 2025, at the Thayer Freewill Baptist Church with Bro. Richard Robinson officiating, and burial following in the Thayer Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12pm-2pm prior to the service. Arrangements are under the direction of the Clary Funeral Home of Thayer, MO. Pallbearers: Jed Underwood, Jared Underwood, Logan Underwood, Maddux Underwood, Holden Underwood, Cannon Pitts, Liam Underwood Honorary Pallbearers: Jim Underwood, Matt Belding, Lennox Underwood, Leif Underwood, Emerson Spangler, Marc Pitts, Darren Spangler, Landry Pitts, Marley Pitts |
